Wars and Migrations: the Chief’s Second Chronicle
In this second part of the Ondikuru history, the Chief recounts the wars that scattered his people. “A fierce conflict once erupted between the Alur and the Kebhu Ondikuru in Alwi,” he begins. The quarrel grew out of language differences, a division so deep that the two peoples could not embrace.
The fighting spilled over to a place now called Egemu, “where their enemies were defeated and left for the eagles to devour.” The Alur say the name as “Agemu”, but the Chief holds that its origin and meaning go back to the Kebhu victory there. The war also took the life of Avazi Chief Obovi.
He names Avon, Kaya, Eru, Membi Ngiya, Ogoro and Elini as the first to settle in Paidha, before the Alur arrived, and places the early Ondikuru settlement near today’s Anyola Primary School.
The Kebhu then allied with the Ndrupka, the people now known as the Lendu, to challenge the Alur. The alliance forced the Alur king to flee to Taali in present day Congo. The Kebhu, he says, played a central role in shaping the region’s story.
