Ikondera (Singular) /Amakondera (Plural) – Wind Pipes

Is a wind instrument made out of Bamboo, with a hole on the side and a pitch nobe fixed at the bottom. It is one of the Batwa’s Indigenous instruments, used to accompany songs, dances, and stories. The Bamboo used to be obtained from the forests, currently accessed from other far-off distances or domestically grown to continue the craftsmanship and lifespan of the instrument.

Biranje Richard and Davis are the blowers of the Amakondere. They are the current generation of middle-aged keepers of the Batwa heritage. The Amakondere is a horn instrument made out of Bamboo, with a pitch control nobe at one end.

The Bamboo was initially accessed in the forest by the Batwa, however currently they need to seek for permission from the authorities to access it.

This here is the risk issue that the Amkondere is faced with, otherwise a solution to accessing bamboo from the outskirts of the forest need to be got in order to prolong this legacy of pipers.
