Mzee Steven (RIP)
He was called Mzee Stephen, a term that refers to older and respected person in Uganda. Due to the lack adequate cultural documentation in most developing countries, a case in point Uganda, Elders such as Steven rarely get to pass on information inform of literature or other forms, that could be useful for future generations and reference.
During the field research conducted in 2024, Mzee Stephen gave Pearl Rhythm Foundation an opportunity to interact with him and document his vast experience.
He sadly however passed away shortly after, due to a short illness. This and many more cases, is the risk that sacred Intangible heritage such as that of the Batwa and other Indigenous minority groups are faced with.
The elders who are the repository of knowledge are frail and weak due to poor health, and lack of adequate basic needs such as medical care.
