Kibindi Player

Ikono-pot is a special instrument played by the Batwa. It is made out of clay which originally was got from the forest streams. Currently the pot has transitioned from its original form of pottery skill among the Batwa and context of clay that was ‘got’ from the forest.

Kabindi (Singular) Ibindi (Plural) -Pot

It is a low-end sound instrument made out of swamp clay and circularly molded into a pot. It is played by blowing air rhythmically through the mouth into the pot. It is played as an accompaniment to dances, and songs in the Batwa community during socializing moments. It is currently played by one person in the Batwa community of Kisoro, and is being taught to younger boys to continue its legacy.

Currently, the pot has transitioned from its original form of pottery skill among the Batwa and the context of clay that was ‘got’ from the forest.

Currently, the pot is locally bought in the market and slowly losing its hereditary belonging to the Batwa.

At 29 years old, He is the only Player of the Inkono in the small community he resides in, after learning the art from his father.
